West Charleston, Ohio, is a small village in Clark County, originally known as Friendtown. It was platted in 1807 by Charles Friend, for whom it was named, and later renamed West Charleston. The community is located along State Route 202, an area historically significant as a route used by George Rogers Clark and later by General "Mad Anthony" Wayne. It is part of the Dayton Metropolitan Statistical Area.
West Charleston was the first town developed in Bethel Twp. and is one of the oldest in Miami County. It was platted in 1807 by Charles Friend and was originally called Friendtown, after the founder's surname. It later was changed to reflect his first name.
West Charleston is an unincorporated community in western Bethel Township, Miami County, Ohio, United States. West Charleston was originally called Friendtown, and under the latter name was platted in 1807 by Charles Friend and named for him. The present name is also derived from the name of the proprietor. A post office called West Charleston was established in 1829 and remained in operation until 1899.
